Identifying challenges

There are many potential challenges of which you should be aware.

1. Overview of challenges

There is a wide range of challenges to face when you consider integrating an individual mobility measure (or a package of measures) into a challenge signsustainable urban mobility plan (or to integrating it with other existing planning documents if you don't have an SUMP).

While it's true that there are quite a few potential challenges, that doesn't mean you'll face them all! We describe them here to make you aware of what to look for so that you can deal with them appropriately or (even better) avoid them in the first place by proactively addressing possible issues before they become problems. (You can find out more about all of the challenges on the CH4LLENGE website.)

Potential challenges revolve around resources (human, financial or land), communication, leadership, timing, roles and responsibilities as well as basic human fears and weaknesses. Some are more easily addressed than others; several are described on the following pages.
