Even if the route from home to destination is safe and comfortable for cycling, if the bike parking is insufficient or unsafe, people will be discouraged from cycling for transportation. This course will look at different types of bike parking and what types are appropriate for different locations. It will also address the value to businesses and to employers of providing bike parking for their customers and employees.
Increasing suburbanisation has created a need for neighbouring authorities to collaborate in providing public transport by forming metropolitan public transport authorities. This course will address the potential scope of MPTA activities, including alternative approaches and voluntary vs. obligatory PTAs. It will provide examples of successful MPTAs and address potential legal barriers and political obstacles.
It’s not easy to find out what customers – and equally important, potential customers – want from their public transport provider. Market research can help you better understand transport preferences and behaviour, the demand for public transport and its perceived quality. This course will look at market research in PT and the range of (internal and external) data sources available to you. It will address timing, financing and evaluating your market research as well as the quality and quantity of data you need and how it can be strategically used to further improve the service you offer.
The Interreg Central Europe project EfficienCE - Energy Efficiency
for Public Transport Infrastructure in Central Europe aims at increasing the currently low-level of energy efficiency and renewable energy usage in public transport
infrastructure and thus reducing the carbon footprint in the region to reach loca, regional, national and EU energy targets. This is achieved by supporting local authorities and public transport companies in developing planning and financing strategies and action plans, implementing pilot actions, developing tools and trainings to plan and operate low-carbon infrastructure, and by transferring knowledge and bets practices on energy-efficient measures across (Central) European regions.
EfficienCE takes up the need of improving energy-efficiency of PT infrastructures to exploit untapped potentials in this sector. Therefore, 12 partners including 7 PT authorities/ companies from 7 different Central European countries are working together on strategies for planning, financing, and deploying energy-efficient solutions and technologies, and on strengthening the capacity of the PT sector by providing knowledge resources.
In this framework, the project is organising an online course on energy-efficient public transport infrastructure technologies deployment, aiming to enable PT operators/ companies, as well as practitioners at public administrations, to learn about the concept and practical implications of different technologies. The participants are introduced to the overall topic, given examples of technologies and solutions available and tested in (Central) Europe and will have access to specific use cases based on the evaluation of pilot actions deployed during the project.
The Interreg Central Europe project CE4CE - Public Transport Infrastructure in Central Europe – facilitate transitioning to circular economy aims to reduce the ecological footprint of public transport through a higher circularity.
In this framework, the project is organising an online course on unpacking the potential of circular economy for a sustainable, future-proof public transport, aiming to strengthen the capacities of PTOs, city representatives, and other key stakeholders to advance the circular economy in public transport. The participants are introduced to the overall topic, given examples of technologies and solutions available and tested in Europe and will have access to specific use cases based on the evaluation of pilot actions deployed during the project.
Both parking prices and parking problems vary greatly among cities, but no city is entirely free of parking challenges. Charging for something that was previously free can be an unpopular, but necessary, decision for a city to take. Using examples from cities that have successfully implemented new parking pricing schemes, this course will address issues such as: How can you increase citizen acceptance of a new (or higher) parking charge? Is it fair to make drastic changes in transport conditions? How do you find the “correct” level of charging? And what is the role of enforcement in parking pricing?

The study on improving the efficiency of the transport system in urban nodes of the trans-European transport core network contributed strongly to further develop the urban dimension of the TEN-T. The on-line course, which is available to all interested European urban nodes, contains facts, findings, recommendation and, above all, inspiration which could help them become more aware of the opportunities arising by being part of the TEN-T core network.
